Speaking at the IntraFish Media and Arctic Securities Investing in Seafood event in Hong Kong, Chansiri stated shrimp is a “recession resistant” seafood product and his company is seeing strong sales in the United States, despite the tough economic climate.
“Chains such as Red Lobster want to bring down the overall cost of the cheque, but lobster and crab are very expensive,” Chansiri told IntraFish. “Frozen shrimp is one of the least expensive types of frozen food. Compared to lobster and crab, it is very cheap.”
