High Liner Foods says it places sustainability as a high priority, but that is unlikely to cause the company to stop selling Alaska salmon once the fisheries’ Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification expires in October.

Although High Liner views the MSC as offering “the most credible standard in the world” for wild-caught fish, whether it will continue to sell Alaska salmon depends upon what customers want, Bill DiMento, director of sustainability for High Liner, told IntraFish.

When asked whether DiMento was disappointed with the Alaska salmon companies’ decision to withdraw from the MSC, he said, no.
