Demand from Europe for processed Alaska pollock products from China is low, with inventories in cold storage in China and South Korea high, sources said.
“No factories here [Qingdao] will be foolish enough to buy more pollock. So demand is dead,” an executive with a China-based processor told IntraFish.
The metric ton price for 25 cm+ Russian headed and gutted (H&G) Alaska pollock cost and freight (CNF) China is now around $1,350 (€1,075), down from $1,480 (€1,179) at the end of March, which was a high for 2012.
