The company is now asking the fisheries minister to intervene, it told IntraFish.
Grieg Seafood has a salmon slaughter plant at Simanes in Alta, but wants to move across the fjord to Mollenes, but is not permitted to do so.
The reason is that the planned slaughter plant lies within a national salmon fjord, Altafjorden. Under Norwegian regulation from 2009, it is in fact prohibited to move or establish slaughter plants or production sites for anadromous fish next to such fjords.
Also under the same regulation, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) can stipulate ceilings for the maximum allowed slaughter volume for existing plants.
