Brazil has a population of over 193 million – the sixth largest in the world -- combined with a booming commodity-export-driven economy. More and more Brazilians are becoming middle class and more are entering the workplace, creating opportunities for seafood companies such as Gomes da Costa, CEO Alberto Encinas told IntraFish.
Canned sardines and tuna are the core products for Gomes da Costa, which currently accounts for around 45 percent of Calvo’s total sales of €490 million ($705.1 million).
However, the company plans to leverage the strength of its brand and expand its range to more ready-to-eat seafood, said Encinas.
“There
