The figure for growth in 2009 compared to 2008 was given by Jon Arne Grottum, regional director for the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) at a conference held during the Aqua Nor trade show in Trondheim.
Grottum’s presentation was titled “Golden Year for Norwegian salmon industry,” with reference to 2009.
Previous assumptions had Norwegian producers slaughtering 16 percent more salmon individuals -- with on average four percent lower weight than last year.
The disease situation in Western Norway has been radically improved. This means less wastage.
