At the beginning of February, IntraFish reported global production of Atlantic salmon would fall by a couple of percent. Several sources offered a similar forecast.
Now brokerage firm First Securities says in a report to its clients the fall will be 7.9 percent. Projected production of Atlantic will be 1.37 million metric tons in 2009. First Securities named Kontali Analyse as a source.
Changes will take place, in Chile especially. First’s estimate has a drop in harvesting of Atlantic in Chile of 59 percent to 160,000 metric tons this year.
