Global markets destined for flood of sockeye salmon

Alaska fishermen have hauled in nearly 28 million sockeye, many of which are between two and four pounds, a size not often headed, gutted and frozen, leaving some processors such as Bristol Bay newcomers Silver Bay Seafoods and Extreme Seafoods with fewer markets to sell their product.

As of Tuesday, the total catch in Bristol Bay was listed at 27.89 million fish after roughly three weeks of landings of more than 1 million fish, and several two million fish harvest days, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G).
