German start-up Crusta Nova kicked off delivery of its first vannamei shrimp in February this year -- grown at a land-based recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) facility not far from one of the country's busiest airports in Munich.

The company plans to harvest about 30 metric tons of the shellfish every year and already nabbed its first retail listing at organic grocery chain Frischeparadies, which will supply the MAP-packed products to foodservice outlets as well.

"We've had great feedback," Fabian Riedel, managing partner at Crusta Nova, told IntraFish.
