Germany’s authority for the registration of trade names (BLE) are attempting to clear up some uncertainties around the labeling of Alaska pollock.
The old scientific name for Alaska pollock -- Theragra chalcogramma -- can be used again until the description of the specific tariff codes are changed in the customs tariff database (TARIC) of the European Union, according to a BLE announcement, dated Oct. 5.
This change could take up to four years, Matthias Keller, managing director of the German Fish Processors Association, Bundesverband der Deutschen Fischindustrie und des Fischgroßhandels (BV Fisch), told IntraFish.
