With the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) emerging as a new option for certification of aquaculture ventures, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is planning to differentiate its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification system as a system for everyone.

“We’re not looking to give blue ribbons to the top 20 percent; we’re looking to move the industry to a better position,” Wally Stevens, GAA executive director, told IntraFish.

The vast majority of companies that seek BAP certification need to make changes in order to successfully receive it,  but the goal is to make certification possible for everyone, Stevens said.
