French salmon trader Direct Ocean has cut its profit expectation, but is not seeing decreased sales volumes because of the economic climate in Europe, its managing director said.

The competitive trading climate in the salmon business means the Boulogne-sur-Mer-based trader has been careful in its buying since June 2011, but because of falling salmon prices, not because of the crisis, said Philippe Barbe.

Although the eurozone crisis has forced the company to expect lower profitability, “so far, we have no impact on salmon sales, because prices have come down and consumption has gone up,” Barbe told IntraFish.
