French group Global Seafoods’ recent deal to save a Capitaine Houat facility from closure, is all part of the company’s plans to cut out the middleman and integrate its business, Pierre-Yves Bizien, executive director of the company, told IntraFish.

Global Seafoods bought the facility, located in Plougasnou, France, from Capitaine Houat, the seafood processing arm of French supermarket chain Intermarche, on Oct. 20.

The Viviers de la Méloine plant specialized in shellfish processing, employing 50 people involved with the cleaning, cooking and live storage of shellfish such as crabs, crayfish and lobsters.
