Land-based salmon farming is not unrealistic. It will take time but it could swoop in and pose a real threat to Norway's natural advantages for salmon farming, according to Kjell Bjordal (pictured left), former CEO of feed producer Ewos, who now runs his own consultancy firm, NLK. 

That was the main message of the lecture he gave Wednesday at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum Conference (NASF) in Bergen, Norway.

Several members of the audience were surprised that he suggested a paradigm shift in commercial salmon farming from sea to on-land based aquaculture.
