Rain in the early part of this week caused damage to two of the company’s salmon hatcheries, but swift work by its employees kept loss to less than 1,000 fish, spokesman Chuck Brown told IntraFish.

“It was really bad in southwest New Brunswick, unprecedented for this area, which typically doesn’t flood. People are amazed. They said they’ve never seen it like this in their lifetime. This is a once-in-100 years-kind-of event that caught everybody by surprise,” Brown said.

The company suffered damage to its hatcheries in Elmsville and Digedeguash, but the water did not get so high as to enter their net pens, keeping most of the fish enclosed.
