However, problems could start already in three years, says the report by Norwegian researchers.
According to the report, the aquaculture industry can postpone the problems for a few years if less fish fat is included in the feed.
However it says, new sources of omega-3 must be found quickly and the industry must cooperate in order to solve the problem collectively.
Entitled ”Being prepared in the salmon industry: Time for collective handling of a shortage of fish oil,” the report is authored by Gro Steine of the Norwegian Institute for agricultural-economic research (NILF), Ragnar Tvetera of the University of Stavanger and NILF and Ivar Pettersen of NILF.
