The first purpose-built freezer trawler in two decades for US owners will be built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) at its Panama City, Florida, yard, and will be delivered in mid-2015 to the Rockland, Maine-based  O’Hara Corporation, co-owners of US scallop producer Eastern Fisheries, and owners of 11 scallop vessels.

The company also owns three catcher processors that fishin the Bering Sea, the Aleutian Islands and the Gulf of Alaska. TheConstellation (165’ long), the Defender (120’ long) and the Enterprise (120’long) catch various species of groundfish and then process their catch onboard.

The contract between O’Hara and ESG was signed last week between ESG’s Brian D’Isernia and Frank O’Hara Jr.
