Vietnamese shrimp producer and processor Quoc Viet Seafood will not be attending this year’s European Seafood Exposition in Brussels.

The company rented booth space but decided to pull out because of "security reasons," Ngo Quoc Tuan, vice president at Quoc Viet, told IntraFish in an email.

It is the first known Asian company to cancel its attendance.

The organizers of the event, Diversified, told IntraFish last week it expects overall cancellations to be less than 2 percent.

So far, a range of Norwegian and United States-based industry heavyweights, as well as Icelandic pelagic firm HB Grandi decided to not attend the show.
