The Villa Arctic Jarfjord Farm in Norway -- owned by Villa Organic -- is the first salmon farm to be awarded Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification -- and the company's first labeled products will hit the market next week.
The salmon will be sold by Villa's main shareholders SalMar and Leroy Seafood Group. Leroy Seafood achieved ASC chain of custody for its sales, distribution and value-added processing chain.
It is now able to offer the market a wide variety of ASC-certified salmon products, including smoked salmon, the ASC said in a press statement.
