Coldwater shrimp are giving European suppliers a welcome boost, industry execs told IntraFish, after an otherwise dismal year.

The Asian market is especially keen on the product, with China and Japan leading the field, said Thomas Gronnebaek, sales manager at Danish company Polar Seafood.

"Prices are up to $1 (€0.75) higher than for standard shrimp," he said.

The products are fetching higher prices in Asia. For a 91/120 count, Polar currently charges around €4 ($5.30) per kilogram in Europe -- for the same product it receives €4.70
