Salmon feed only accounts for 14 percent of all fish feed on a global basis, according to statistics presented at Cermaq’s Capital Markets Day.

World production is currently estimated at about 23 million metric tons of fish feed for around 100 species.

Most of the world’s fish farming takes place in China and India with different types of carp. The other major species are shrimp, pangasius and tilapia.

“Production of salmon feed is geared more to manufacturing than any other segment in the industry, with the focus on feed technology research and development,” Cermaq stated in a brochure.
