Figures from 2008 show total salmon sales in France in 2008 reached €321 million ($481 million) – almost double that of the second largest fish species, cod, said Johan Kvalheim.
Speaking at the annual marine farming conference Havbrukskonferansen 2009 in Oslo, Kvalheim told attendees the figures showed farmed salmon was France’s primary seafood, adding that Norway had an 80 percent share of this market.
During this year’s first 10 months exports from Norway have grown by 6.5 percent, compared with the same period last year, to 19,824 metric tons.
