Counter-sanctions are not the right way to seek retaliation on Russia in response to its imports ban, imposed on Aug. 7, Matthias Keller, managing director of the German Fisch-Informationszentrum (FIZ), told IntraFish.
Cutting off fish and seafood imports from the European Union to Russia would be self-destructive and could have severe consequences for European fisheries and the processing industry, he said.
His comments come in response to enquiries by the European Commission last week if counter-sanctions would be a feasible option, he said.
