Norwegian farmed salmon prices, which have suffered a slump in recent weeks, are expected to rise going into next week as lower harvests and stronger demand intersect.

Exporters and farmers are projecting a NOK 3-5 rise in prices, and, not surprisingly, expect prices could remain fish.

One Northern salmon farming executive projected larger-sized (6 kilo+) salmon could rise as much as NOK 10 over last week, to as high as NOK 70.

A Polish importer expected some firming, and said Norwegian farmers are "trying to push prices up toward mid-October," particularly on larger fish.

The majority of harvested fish, however, are smaller -- under 5 kilos -- according to one source.

One exporter said smaller harvest volumes said he "hopes and expects" prices will remain firm, and gave the following average prices:

2-3 kg: NOK 35-36/kg
3-4 kg: NOK 42/kg
4-5 kg: NOK 44/kg
5-6 kg: NOK 46/kg
6+ kg: NOK 52-53/kg

Though prices remain at "lower" levels for producers, opinions are mixed on how long that will last.

"I'm afraid the upturn might break next week, and that this mump is too big," one exporter said. "But for now, this is a small adjustment and in general, prices are low."

The exporter gave the following estimates:

2-3 kg: NOK 34/kg
3-4 kg: NOK 40/kg
4-5 kg: NOK 42/kg
5-6 kg: NOK 44/kg
6+ kg: NOK 54/kg
