At least that’s according to Alfredo Ovalle, chairman of SeaCorp Seattle LLC, a U.S. company that imports and distributes salmon on the U.S. market.

Ovalle imports seafood from Norway, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Canada, Alaska, Peru and gradually, larger consignments from his homeland of Chile.

Chile’s salmon export has dropped consecutively for three years due to the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) disease. This year total export of salmonids from Chile was only 245,000 metric tons product weight, according to Ovalle.

In an interview with the Chilean Web site Aqua, Ovalle said Norway has not succeeded in understanding the new development trends in the American market, and Norwegians are not supplying the right kinds of fillets.
