The feed contains new “functional components,” additives that are designed to achieve special effects.
“One of the new components is an extremely powerful immunity stimulant, which is a first in fish feed. It strengthens the immune apparatus,” Ewos’ sales and marketing director, Endre Saeter, told IntraFish.
Another component deters lice from attaching to the fish. Fish lice are very species-specific. Cod lice do not attach to salmon; the same applies to halibut lice and vice versa. The new component confuses the louse so that it has difficulty recognizing the salmon.
