The status of the joint Norway-Russia fishing agreement will be discussed by the European Commission on Feb. 26, a spokeswoman for MEP Jarosław Wałesa told IntraFish.

Walesa had called on the Commission to take steps towards Norway over its fisheries arrangements with Russia. In a question to parliament on Jan. 6, he said the European Commission should examine the arrangements between the two countries over their fishing resources, as these could be to the "detriment" to EU countries.

Part of these arrangements revolve around the status of Svalbard.
