The European Union’s association of seafood processors (AIPCE-CEP) has launched a document of standards for environmentally responsible processing.

The European Commission published a Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe in September 2011. The vision of the Commission is that by 2050 all resources will be managed sustainably from raw material to energy, water, air, land and soil.

“In AIPCE-CEP and across our membership we have already commenced the journey. For example, we recently published our "Principles for Environmentally Responsible Fish Processing,” Our responsible fish processing principles focuses on working together on energy efficiency, water usage reduction, waste minimization, packaging and transport efficiency,” said AIPCE-CEP.
