A. Espersen has taken a majority stake in Aladdin Seafood, a former customer, in order to expand its sales of light-salted whitefish and breaded products into Spain.

Aladdin Seafood, which was founded in 2006 by former Icelandic Group executive Olafur Olafsson, was a former customer of the Danish whitefish processing group.

Olafsson will serve as managing director of the company, renamed Espersen Seafood. He will retain a minority stake in the company.

Aladdin reported growth in 2009 and 2010, but this had stalled in 2011, as the tough economic situation in Spain hit home, Olafsson told IntraFish.
