For the first half of 2011, Ecuadorian shrimp exports totaled 188.44 million pounds (85,474 metric tons), worth $480.83 million (€333.3 million).

In 2010, Ecuadorian companies exported 322.32 million pounds (146,201 metric tons) of shrimp, worth $735.48 million (€509.8 million).

Executives in Ecuador are confident the 2010 figure, which was a record in export volume, will be eclipsed.

“Production in Ecuador has certainly increased. I think it could be a record year,” an executive from one of the top three exporters told IntraFish.

The export level in the second half will “probably be a little more, but this will depend on the price level," Sandro Coglitore, director general of Ecuador’s sixth largest exporter, Omarsa, said.
