South Korean tuna giant Dongwon Industries is close to making an acquisition of a cannery in Africa, which could be used to supply the European market.

Dongwon has reportedly been eyeing a move for Societe Nouvelle de Conserves du Senegal (SNCDS), a troubled cannery which has been partly nationalized by the government of Senegal.

The Senegalese government has approved the sale of SNCDS, a spokesman for the minster of fisheries told IntraFish.

Politicians from Senegal will meet with Dongwon’s top executives during the Busan International Seafood & Fisheries Expo, held from Nov.
