The number of different food labels in the eco-label stronghold of Germany comes to as many as 300 -- around 50 of these are for seafood.

But the direct link to quality is not always there, Peter Dill, CEO at Deutsche See (pictured), said at the Norwegian Seafood Council's conference held in Brussels last week.

Labels for seafood include those of the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), and sustainable and eco-conservation labels such as the Fair Trade label or Fish Wise.
