Chile exported 146,000 metric tons of round, bled-weight salmon through May 31, according to an estimate by analysis firm Kontali Analyse.

“The expectation has been a consideration downturn in 2008 exports, but that downturn hasn’t showed up yet,” Kontali Managing Director Ragnar Nystoyl told IntraFish.

Some of the year’s harvest has likely come at the expense of slaughter volumes for the rest of the year, said Nystoyl. “The Chileans have harvested more smaller fish, so the potential for future growth is correspondingly less.”
