They stole 200 metric tons of flour that was to have been used for production of fish feed.
A handful of police had no chance of holding back the flood of desperate people. So instead the police organized a queue, to prevent anyone being hurt in the rush. The sacks of flour are also heavy and were stacked at considerable height.
“The point is that the theft shows the level of desperation in the area. It is right in such a situation, in the emergency after the earthquake, that people get the flour for making food, and that it is not used for fish feed.
