Last week, Danish police launched an investigation into Select Salmon, a smokehouse based in Esbjerg, after it emerged that it had knowingly sold listeria-infected fish for at least 18 months.
The findings emerged from samples taken by Select Salmon itself from 13 different consignments of halibut, trout and salmon, that had taken place since November 2009.
Now, in response to the news, Select Salmon has said that its products’ listeria levels were well within the limit set by European Union regulations.
The results of all the samples showed that the listeria levels were at 10 cfu/ gram (colonies forming units per gram), which is well below the EU limit of 100 cfu/ gram, Select Salmon’s director Brian Thygesen said in a statement.
However,
