An expected 40 percent drop in the harvest of pink salmon from Alaska this year would suggest a price rise is likely to follow.
However, a salmon buyer in Europe claims prices are likely to decline.
“The prices we have heard are around $2,750 (€2,147) per metric ton, compared to $3,450 (€2,693) for last year,” said Sebastien Roussel, sales director with French salmon trader Direct Ocean.
This is despite the Alaskans forecasting a drop in pink from 115 million fish in 2011 to 70 million fish in 2012, a decline of 39.13
