Cod producers are irate with Steinar Olaisen, founder of north Norway’s biggest aquaculture company, Nova Sea, who declared cod farming a dead industry.
Norway and the world’s biggest cod production company, Codfarmers, “are up in arms” about statements made by Olaisen at a regional panel’s conference on Friday.
In an e-mail to IntraFish, Dahl said cod producers have two key challenges. The first is the growth rate for market-ready fish is unsatisfactory so slaughter weights are too low in relation to what is needed to achieve good, economic production.
