The farmed cod was priced at £4.68 a pound (about $7.60 per pound). Initially Marks and Spencer is selling the farmed cod at 30 stores in London. Production is expected to increase to 2,500 tons over the next five years, representing about 1.5% of all cod consumed in the U.K, Seafood.com reports.
The cod is from a £450,000 project in the Scottish highlands that is partially backed by Marks and Spencer. The company is looking for alternatives to take pressure of the wild stocks.
