Chinese seafood imports reached over $3.5 billion (€3.1 billion) in the second quarter of the year, a 23 percent increase compared with the same period a year earlier, according to data from the International Trade Center (ITC).

In the first half of the year, China imported almost 2 million metric tons of seafood worth $7 billion (€6.3 billion), a 34 percent increase year-on-year.

Over the year there were significant shifts in the market. First, the United States took a hit from the ongoing trade war between both countries, and went from being the second largest seafood exporter into China in the first half of 2018, to being the fifth, following Russia, Ecuador, Canada, and India.
