Disease problems in China are driving up prices for tilapia raw material, an executive told IntraFish.

Streptococcus disease hitting tilapia farming in Guangdong province has caused a very high mortality, said Daniel Lin, a China-based executive from Oceania Seafoods, a global seafood supply company.

“I think this is the main factor causing the inflation of the raw fish price in China. Prices increased from mid-August, peaked in mid-October and dropped a little recently,” he told IntraFish.
