Asian demand is Canada’s gain
China isn’t taking jobs, it’s creating them, according to Martin Sullivan, CEO of Canada’s Ocean Choice International (OCI).
The group, which has traditionally counted on the U.S. and Japanese markets for a large portion of its sales, has seen demand up 50 percent in the China market for its products.
That demand isn’t on just one or two species, either. In total, 13 species are now supplied by OCI into the Chinese market. Primarily, the products are going in whole and unadulterated – not processed into fillets or other forms.
“That’s the way they want to eat it,” Sullivan said.
