On Jan. 19, Giskeodegaard was a keynote speaker at the "Salmon Days" conference in Hell, Norway. The title of his address was "1 billion dollars – is it enough to save Chile?"
Giskeodegaard presented only what is needed of fresh capital for new investments.
Excluded from the calculation were producers’ debts to banks and suppliers. IntraFish has previously reported the debt is estimated at NOK 18 billion to NOK 19 billion (€2.2-2.3 billion/$3.1 billion-3.2 billion)
This calculation is based on reports Chile will increase Atlantic salmon biomass from around 30,000 metric tons to 330,000 metric tons, which was the level of production in 2004.
