Chilean authorities announced they will invest $100 million (€91 million) into the research and development of aquaculture over the next 10 years.

The plan was launched Tuesday last week by Vice President Eduardo Bitran in Corfo, which is a Chilean directorate for industrial development, a body similar to Innovation Norway.

Bitran is no stranger to Norway. For many years he has been the connecting link between Chilean policy, administration and the aquaculture industry.

He was formerly the top executive for the development firm Fundacion Chile – which played a decisive role as a ‘midwife’ for the ‘birth’ of the country’s salmon production industry.
