Chilean salmon companies will see their production fall by 10 percent to 13 percent in 2016 due to the algae bloom affecting farms in Puerto Montt over the last five days, salmon farming executives told IntraFish.
Ricardo Garcia, general director at Camanchaca said although final figures in terms of mortality and financial losses cannot yet be determined, farmers will harvest at least 10 percent less than they were expecting for the harvesting season, starting in April.
