The entire Chilean salmon industry on Tuesday called on  the Chilean government to impose new regulations on salmon farmers to protect fish health and sanitation.

AquaChile, the trade associations SalmonChile and Acotruch, along with Undersecretary of Fisheries Pablo Galilea, submitted a proposal to Chile’s Subsecretary of Aquaculture and Fishing, Subpesca. The proposal asks for Sernapesca to set pen density limits based on fish performance, SalmonChile said.

The fish farmers introduced the proposal at a Subpesca meeting on Tuesday in Puerto Montt, where they discussed the Chilean salmon industry’s production model.
