"Chile’s production of salmonids should consolidate at around 700.000 metric tons. That’s more than enough. Production costs have reached new heights.”

That’s according to Johanna Castro, analyst at LarrainVial in Santiago, Chile. She was a keynote speaker at Nordea and the Norwegian Seafood Council’s finance seminar held at AquaNor in Trondheim last week.

In a presentation, titled “The salmon industry 2014: healthier, wiser, stronger,” she told the audience Chile’s potential is not 1 million metric tons as many believe, simply due to the criteria of the new regulation regime.

Plans
