Chile's national fisheries and aquaculture agency Sernapesca temporarily suspended the imports of Chilean salmon eggs from all countries while it updates the risk analysis of two new diseases which were recently incorporated into health regulations of national aquaculture.
"Changing the health regulations requires us to be more stringent in order to reduce the risk of entry of new diseases that may affect the Chilean aquaculture," said Pablo Galilea, undersecretary of fisheries and aquaculture, reported Negocios.
The Secretary recently made an official visit to Iceland, Chile's main supplier of eggs, to hold meetings with local authorities and determine the performance of Scandinavian companies who ship of Atlantic salmon eggs to Chile.
