That’s according to Kontali Analyse Executive Chairman Lars Liabo, who addressed the North Atlantic Seafood Forum conference in Lillestrom, Norway on Wednesday. He showed a wall chart aptly titled; “Chile: still in business.”
In 2003 the Chileans slaughtered 500,000 metric tons. The peak year was 2008 with 700,000 metric tons, but much of this volume was attributed to forced slaughtering of infectious salmon anemia (ISA)-diseased fish.
Last year the volume of Atlantic salmon was almost halved in relation to the previous year.
