Chile will soon return to its production peak of 2008 – but with only 70 percent of the workforce it needed at the time, a consultant and former Marine Harvest executive said.

“In 2008 we produced around 660,000 metric tons of salmonid, although enforced slaughtering accounted for much of this tonnage,” Adolfo Alvial told IntraFish.

“Once we reach this level again, we will only need 70 percent of the total number of people employed at that time. It’s too early to talk about further growth beyond that.”
