In terms of whole fish equivalent (WFE) weight, Chile’s Atlantic salmon production could reach between 100,000 metric tons and 110,000 metric tons, Nordea Markets analyst Kolbjorn Giskeodegard said.
This could increase to 150,000 metric tons in 2011, he said. However, reaching previous records such as the 400,000 metric tons of 2008 could take “an additional five years,” Giskeodegard said.
Many factors will determine the recovery and its speed. “Maybe Chile will never reach old heights; for example if they have new outbreaks of infectious salmon anemia (ISA),” he said.
